Here at Sunbeam we have learned a lot over the past few months as we’ve welcomed the first children into our center.
Along with meeting basic needs every day, caregivers Luyve and Maria spend many hours with the children in developmental activities and educational games. Their tasks have been supported by volunteers Terje, Rachel and Elissa. We’ve also hosted short-term volunteers from the the USA. My role as the director is to unite people and assure the work is done well with good feelings and good relationships.
All the children are different — their needs, personalities and interests. This means we must be very creative in our work.
Every day we see more and more how care and love have beneficial effects on children: the shine in the eyes of the children and approval on the faces of parents are confirming to us that we are on the right track.
